Driver & Vehicle Safety Standards
The person driving your group and the vehicle they’re driving matter more than the lights and sound system. Here’s what California requires of both, and what that means when you book a party bus in Los Angeles.
Who’s allowed to drive a party bus
- The right license class. Vehicles designed to carry 16 or more people, counting the driver, require a commercial driver’s license with a passenger endorsement. That covers most full-size party buses.
- Drug and alcohol testing. California charter carriers must run a controlled substances and alcohol testing program for their drivers.
- Ongoing record checks. Through the DMV Employer Pull Notice program, the carrier is notified about its drivers’ license status and violations, not just at hiring.
- Zero drinking. Our drivers never drink, before or during a trip.
How party buses are kept road-ready
Charter-party vehicles must pass a California Highway Patrol inspection before a carrier can be licensed, and carriers must keep records showing their vehicles pass required safety inspections. Beyond what the law requires, a well-run operator checks the basics before every trip: brakes, tires, lights, doors, emergency exits and the air conditioning, which matters on a full bus in an LA summer.
Safety rules on board
- Stay seated or hold on while the bus is moving, especially through stops and turns.
- Keep exits and aisles clear.
- No standing on seats, no hanging out of windows or doors.
- Follow the driver’s instructions. The driver can end the trip if the group becomes unsafe.
